Every shift
- Wipe the collet and nut, check for MDF dust packed in the taper
- Dry brush the rails and screws, no wet oil on the Highveld
- Empty the vac before it is full, suction drops long before the bag is packed
Every week
- Two-minute runout check with the dial
- Check gantry bolts for creep after heavy plate work
- Resurface a strip of spoilboard if hold-downs start slipping
Every month
- Grease the screws per the maker's interval
- Inspect the drag chain and cable strain relief
- Check the spindle cooling fan or water flow
Spares worth keeping
- Two ER11 collets in your most used sizes
- Spare collet nut
- Limit switch
- Short length of spindle cable
Local conditions
On the Highveld the dust is fine and dry, so the spindle gets a wipe and the rails get a dry brush at every shift close. In Durban or East London the problem is the opposite: bare steel tables and collets want a light oil film over long weekends.
The care ritual card turns this list into a tick sheet for the machine.
