Alone after 18:00
Night shift operators are often alone with the machine. They need clear rules about what they may fix and what must wait. Changing a bit or a collet is fine. Opening the electrical cabinet is not.
Write the list
Post a short list by the fast bin: parts the night operator may fit, parts that need the day team, and who to phone in an emergency. Keep it to one page.
Safety first
Nobody works alone on a machine without a working emergency stop, a charged phone and someone who knows they are there. Check in at a set time each night.
The slip we see most
Letting the night operator try a fix the day team would never allow, because nobody wrote the rule down.
How you know it is working
Night shifts finish with the machine safe, the bed clear and a short note on the clipboard.
