Who it is for
Any shop with a router spindle, from a single 6040 to a pair of 1212s. Especially useful where more than one person runs the machine.
What it does on the floor
The set is the small stuff that keeps a spindle accurate: a full collet run in shadow foam, a collet nut wrench that fits properly, a dial indicator on a magnetic base, a test pin, cleaning brushes and a tub of the right grease.
Most bit breakage and poor finish in small shops comes from dirty or worn collets, not from the bit itself. Two minutes at shift close with this kit saves hours of chasing chatter marks later.
Mistakes we see in the first month
- Leaving a bit in the collet overnight, so resin and dust set in the taper.
- Over-tightening the nut with a cheater bar, which damages the collet.
- Mixing up collets from different machines in one coffee tin.
South African conditions
In dusty inland shops, a collet that is wiped daily lasts far longer than one that is only cleaned when it gives trouble. On the coast, a very light film of oil on stored collets keeps the rust off.
Space and power at a glance
A drawer or wall-mounted case beside the machine. Nothing on the bed. Nothing to plug in.
Care at a glance
- Remove the bit at shift close
- Wipe the collet and nut, brush the taper
- Return everything to its foam cut-out
Spares worth keeping close: one spare collet per common size, spare nut, replacement brushes.
Before you email
Read the specs for the numbers, the layout notes for floor space and power, and the care routine for what the machine needs each week. Then email cnc@cncpme.co.za with your city, what you cut most, and a photo of the space.
