Plasma consumables on the shelf
Kanban for tips, shields, and swirl rings.
Consumables are the cut quality
On an air plasma table, the nozzle and electrode decide the edge. A worn pair gives bevel, dross and wandering kerf long before it stops cutting. Shops that wait for a failed pierce have usually been cutting bad parts for a day already.
Keep a small kanban
Store nozzles, electrodes, swirl rings and shields in a closed box near the table, with a card for each. When the box drops to two sets, the card goes in the reorder pocket. Always change nozzle and electrode as a pair, and write the date on the box lid.
Air is part of it
Wet or oily air kills consumables fast. Drain the filter bowl at the table every morning and check it after rain. In humid coastal shops, a second filter close to the torch is cheap insurance.
The slip we see most
Changing only the nozzle and keeping an old electrode, which shortens the life of both.
How you know it is working
Edge quality stays steady from Monday to Friday and the welders stop sending parts back for grinding.
