Who it is for
Sign makers, shopfitters and small cabinet shops that nest board every day and are tired of breaking sheets down by hand before every job.
What it does on the floor
The 1212 takes a full-width 1220 board and handles most nests in one go, which changes the economics of a sign or furniture shop quite fast. ACM, Perspex, MDF, melamine-faced chipboard and ply all sit on the same bed with the right hold-down.
It needs more care than the 6040 in two places: the spoilboard and the extraction. A square metre of MDF dust per day is real volume, and a bed that is not flat will show in every pocket depth. Shops that plan for both from the start get far more out of this machine.
Mistakes we see in the first month
- Skipping a proper spoilboard surfacing schedule, then chasing pocket depth in CAM.
- Under-sizing extraction, so chips pile up in the gantry and the dust ends up in the office next door.
- Putting the machine where a forklift or pallet jack has to squeeze past the gantry.
South African conditions
A lot of 1212 owners are in older light industrial units with uneven concrete floors. Level the stand properly and re-check after the first month, because a stand that settles makes a flat spoilboard impossible.
Space and power at a glance
About 2000 x 1800 mm with the stand, plus room to slide a full sheet on from the front. Dedicated circuit, and on bigger spindles often three phase. Ask the electrician to confirm the supply before delivery day, not on it.
Care at a glance
- Vacuum the bed and T-slots, check for loose clamps
- Log what you cut so spoilboard wear is predictable
- Check the dust hood bristles are still touching the sheet
Spares worth keeping close: spare spoilboard sheet stored flat, compression and down-cut bits in the main sizes, pump filter element, drive belt if your model uses one.
Before you email
Read the specs for the numbers, the layout notes for floor space and power, and the care routine for what the machine needs each week. Then email cnc@cncpme.co.za with your city, what you cut most, and a photo of the space.
